Earth Day Complete Streets and Greenways on MacPherson Road in Devens

April 22, 2026

(April 22, 2026) – Ayer, Devens and the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge hosted the Open Street and Greenway Event for Earth Day on Wednesday. Vendor tables were set up on the grassy area where Bishop and MacPherson roads meet, including for the Friends of the Ayer Senior Center, the Devens Climate Resiliency Project (MVP 2.0), North County Land Trust and PACE (People About Ayer Concerned About the Environment). Among the freebies, Nashoba Associated Boards of Health gave away free “remove-the-tick” spoons (and we included a photo of their tips below).

Scott Wilson, a birder with the Featherhead Foundation, led a few bird walks. We joined a short walk down MacPherson Road, which started with a close-up of a red belly woodpecker through a birding lens and ended with a great blue heron flying overhead. It was a special experience walking down the road – no cars!

Here’s a link to the pre-event announcement. We have also included some photos we took.
